Forte de Barém – also known as the Qal'at al-Bahrain
unreviewed candidate · Tier B · provisional
Qal’at al-Bahrain combines a Portuguese-period fort with a much older archaeological landscape. It stands on a mound accumulated through millennia of occupation at the former capital of Dilmun; the visible fort and the settlement beneath it belong to different historical layers.
